Writing Assessment is the final section of the LSAT. The task is basically a brief situation for which you will be asked to choose between two different options and defend your choice. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ position; instead, your argumentative writing skills will be evaluated.
start preparationExample: Tom has long been thinking about buying a pet. Now, when he has saved enough money to buy one, Tom is considering buying either a cat or a dog. Using the facts below, write an essay in which you argue for one of the following over the other based on the following two criteria:
Dogs are known to be loyal to their owners. Although they demand a lot of human efforts and attention at an early stage of their lives, they quickly become attached and devoted to their masters. Since dogs are active animals, they often crush furniture and other fragile things.
Cats often remain aloof and detached. Their behavior is unpredictable and, sometimes, uncontrolled. They usually do not ask for much and, provided with food and water, can be on their own for long periods without disturbing their owners. They frequently scratch walls and furniture.
You need to choose your position and defend it by supplying convincing arguments based on the information provided. Remember, there is no correct answer as to whether Tom has to buy a cat or a dog. You will be evaluated by the strength of your argumentative skills and your reasoning.
